About Adventureland

Adventureland draws it's inspiration from the jungles of Asia, Africa, South America, and the South Pacific. Walt Disney had many award winning documentaries on Africa and Asia which also served as inspiration.
"To create a land that would make this dream reality we pictured ourselves far from civilization, in the remote jungles of Asia and Africa." -Walt Disney
Originally Walt wanted real animals but after contacting zoologists it was agreed upon that mechanical animals would be better. Many mechanical animals were designed for Adventureland's original main attraction, the Jungle Cruise.

Over time Adventureland went through an expansion. In 1994 Indiana Jones Adventure was added thus becoming the current main attraction of the land. With this addition the entire land was transformed with a 1930s theme. The last major change in Adventureland was in 1999 when the Swiss Family Treehouse was re-themed as Tarzan's Treehouse.
