About Critter Country

Critter Country has gone through many name changes and layouts. Originally it was known as Indian Village and was apart of Frontierland from 1956-1971. On March 4, 1972 it became it's own land but was named Bear Country. It wasn't named Critter Country until 1988. The name came from a quote that was in the 1946 movie Song of the South.
"Where the folks are closer to the critters and the critters are closer to the folks." - Song of the South
This movie ended up being the inspiration for the Splash Mountain attraction. Ironically Song of the South is not available to own as it is, and always has been since it's release, full of controversy and considered racist.
